What’s On in Barcelona This April: The Events Worth Your Time
April in Barcelona means the cultural season is hitting its stride before the summer heat changes everything. Here’s what’s worth your time this month.
Sant Jordi — 23 April. The Catalan equivalent of Valentine’s Day, except it involves books and roses rather than dinner and chocolates. The tradition: men give women roses, women give men books. In practice: the whole city comes out, every street has book and flower stalls, and the Rambla is genuinely beautiful for about six hours before it gets crowded. One of the best days to be in Barcelona. No ticket needed, no reservation required. Just walk.
For music this month: Sala Apolo (Carrer Nou de la Rambla 113, Poble Sec) and Razzmatazz (Carrer dels Almogàvers 122, Poblenou) both have good programmes in April. Check their calendars directly — the best nights here sell out. The Nitsa Club at Apolo on Fridays is a consistent choice for electronic music.

Contemporary art: the MACBA (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Plaça dels Àngels 1, El Raval) runs consistently good exhibitions and the permanent collection is worth returning to seasonally. The Raval location means you can pair it with a walk through one of the city’s most genuinely lived-in neighbourhoods. Friday evenings, entry is free after 4pm.
