What’s Coming Up in Barcelona This May and June
May in Barcelona is a quietly excellent month. The Easter crowds have cleared, the summer invasion hasn’t started, the weather is warm enough for terraces but not brutal. The city is at its most liveable. Here’s what’s worth planning around.
The big June anchor is Primavera Sound (June 4–6, Parc del Fòrum), which sold out its 2026 edition within hours. If you don’t have a ticket, you still have two options: the Primavera a la Ciutat parallel programme runs at city venues including Sala Apolo (Carrer Nou de la Rambla 113) and Razzmatazz (Carrer dels Almogàvers 122) across the festival week, with separate ticketing and smaller-venue shows often featuring artists not on the main bill. Worth watching the Primavera website in April for announcements.

In May, the CCCB and the MACBA (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Plaça dels Àngels 1, in the Raval) both run their regular programming — check their websites for current exhibitions. The MACBA permanent collection is worth a visit regardless of what’s showing; the building by Richard Meier is one of the finest pieces of architecture in the city.
One thing people miss: the verbenas. On the eve of Sant Joan (June 23rd, the night before the feast of St John the Baptist), Barcelona covers itself in fireworks and bonfires on every beach. It’s the wildest night of the year. Locals buy cava, bring their own fireworks, and head to the beach from around 10pm until dawn. No organised event, no ticket, no venue. Just the city celebrating itself. Mark it in your calendar now.
